Alysandra’s Corner
I’m Alysandra, a forty something girl who lives in France. Yep, that explains a lot the way I speak/write in english :p I do hope it won’t bother you too much.
I was, until a few years ago (june 2007 to be exact), a big fan of Buffy the Vampire Slayer. I created a lot of wallpapers for that fandom and wrote (in french) a few fanfics. I really didn’t think I could be more of a fan than I was for BtVS and especially Spike. I almost met James Marsters, you know? Twice… But that’s another story :)
Anyway, I ate, drank, slept, thought and talked “Buffy” for years. But that was before I watched Queer as Folk (US) and though I’ll always cherish the Buffy fandom (and I wasn’t even into slash at the time!), there’s nothing else like Queer as Folk :)
I watch(ed) a lot of tv shows and if I take a closer look at them, I can really see a pattern. Judge by yourself: The 4400, Alias, Angel, Beverly Hills 90210 and its spinoff 90210, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Dawson’s Creek, Dollhouse, Gilmore Girls, Glee, Gossip Girl, Hellcats, Heroes, Jane by Design, Lois and Clark, Lost, The Lying Game, Moonlight, My So-Called Life, The O.C., Once Upon a Time, One Tree Hill, Pretty Little Liars, Roswell, Saved by the Bell, The Secret Circle, Smallville, Stargate SG-1, Supernatural, Teen Wolf, Torchwood, Tru Calling, True Blood, V (2009), The Vampire Diaries, Veronica Mars, Young Americans…
Come on, I’m sure you can see it! It’s always about teens, or fantastic/sci-fi, sometimes everything at once!
Of course, I do like other genres, but there’s not so many other tv shows that I also watch(ed) (24, Ally McBeal, Bones, Burn Notice, The Client List, Cougar Town, Damages, Desperate Housewives, Dexter, Don’t Trust the B– in Apt 23, Drop Dead Diva, Franklin & Bash, Grey’s Anatomy, Hart of Dixie, Hawaii Five-0, House of Lies, Nikita, Private Practice, Revenge, Ringer, Saving Hope, Smash, Spartacus, White Collar…) that I sometimes wonder how I came to want to watch Queer as Folk! Well, I know how (thank you forever Kat!) but that was so different from anything else I watched: no teens, no aliens, no vampires!
It just took me a look at Brian Kinney and I was lost!
After watching the 5 seasons in about 2 weeks (although I still have to watch episodes 507 to 513 minus 510), I almost immediately started a website about Queer as Folk. At first it was just a photo gallery but I started posted news as well a couple of years ago. Contrarily to most fans, I only watched the episodes once (except for a few favorite ones like 101-103, 122, 307-309, 401 and 510). It’s not that I don’t want to watch the episodes again, it’s just that, when I was a Buffy fan, I watched the episodes all the time and at the end it became… I don’t know… tedious. I grew tired of it. But I still love Buffy, and I still think of the show as one of the best series ever! I would love to be able to watch the entire series again (and its spinoff Angel that I never got to finish – Spike fan, remember? – I think I’m somewhere near the beginning of s3…).
Anyway, just to say that I don’t want to grow tired of QAF. Ever. But, it has been 5 years since I watched the show for the first time. I think I might be entitled to watch it a second time now, right? ;) In english this time, because in french… well, lets say that Gale’s voice isn’t as sexy as his real voice ;)
To conclude, you can see below how obsessed with the show I am:
